Workshops on bilingualism and bilingual children
More than 40 people attended the first session on November 24th and about 25 people attended the second one on December 1st. Most participants were parents of bilingual children or people who want to raise their child bilingually in the future. The general presentation was followed by a very interesting discussion.

Some of the questions asked during the workshop

  • If we choose to adopt the one-parent-one language strategy, how strict are we supposed to be in keeping languages separate?
  • If parents speak a third language to each other, will the child pick up this language as well?
  • If parents speak their non-native language to the child, will the child pick up his parents’ mistakes?
  • Is it important to correct your child?
  • Is it ok for a child to learn to read in both languages at the same time?
  • Are bilingual children delayed in their language development?
